Nine Barz is a reggae dancehall artist from The Gambia. His musical journey has been deeply shaped — both artistically and spiritually — by the influence of his father, a passionate reggae listener and admirer of legends such as Joseph Hill, Burning Spear, and Bob Marley.

From a young age, Nine Barz began making music by freestyling reggae with his friends. He recorded his first demos on blank cassette tapes, using fuel drums as improvised percussion. His first stage appearance took place at an open mic at the Willis Night Club in The Gambia, before performing regularly with several Gambian sound systems.

In 2017, he moved to Italy, where he recorded his first official track with Danny from Picolo Underground, followed by several collaborations.
In 2019, he settled in Lyon, France, marking a major turning point in his artistic development. He connected with producers, selectors, and key actors of the local reggae scene. He performed multiple times at Collège Maurice Scève, where he met Malo (Livity Records) and recorded several notable tracks with him, including Mr Big Man, Budodoo, and One Government. He also collaborated with Tony (Shifu Empire).

Highly active on stage, Nine Barz has performed alongside many sound systems such as Bredda Sound, Livity Crew, and Dreadlyon Hi-Fi(Valence), and frequently shares the stage with DJ Kaynixe in Lyon and the surrounding regions.

In 2023, he joined the Lyon-based crew Skankey Tunes, performing extensively across France: Lyon (Les Valseuses, Rock N Eat, La Pente, Meyzieu), Besançon, Saint-Étienne, Ardèche, Blois, Saint-Aignan, Fête de la Musique, High Grade Party, Bass Save The King, and many more.
He also delivered solo shows in Marseille and Grenoble, performing alongside Gambian DJs.

The year 2024 marked an important wave of releases:
No Matter How I Try (label I Love Sound, Selekta Kty)
Chorimama and No More War (producer Moshi Kamachi, Marseille)
Living on My Own (producer King Joe, Jamaican based in Lyon)
Internet Badness (producer Tony, Shifu Empire)

In 2025, Nine Barz released Nine Night, featuring General KK, on the Jamaican label DasVibes.

He also joined a live band project with musician Untakt, performing as a duo or trio, bringing a more organic, powerful and immersive dimension to his shows.

His musical influences draw from both the African and Gambian scenes (Born Africans) and the Jamaican landscape, with inspirations such as Vybz Kartel, Capleton, Anthony B, and David Spliff.
Known for his high-energy performances, his love for freestyle, and his strong connection with the audience, Nine Barz stands out as a committed, dynamic, and charismatic live performer.
